House of Artists
Since 1981 the House of Artists in Gugging has been offering artistically talented individuals full-care housing where they can feel at home.
Unmistakable – colorfully painted by the artists themselves – it is located on a hill in the Vienna Forest, in the town of Maria Gugging (Klosterneuburg).
A multiprofessional team enables our residents to lead as autonomous a life as possible in a familial atmosphere within a stable environment, empowering them to pursue their artistic activities.
The most important goals of the Association – Friends of the House of Artists in Gugging are supporting and fostering the work of artists whose artworks are seen as `Art Brut`. Beyond this, the association also seeks to strengthen the position of `Art Brut` artists within the general context of the art world and is pursuing a comprehensive recognition of their achievements.
The galerie gugging is among the world’s most important venues for the presentation of an unadulterated, primal art possessing its own distinctive formal idiom. Here works by the artists from Gugging and their fellow artists from other countries are exhibited with the goal of advancing their work and rendering it more visible within the context of contemporary art. Artworks can be seen as well as purchased here.

The Private Foundation – Artists from Gugging is responsible for a collection of important works by the Artists from Gugging as well as `Art Brut` artists in general.
The goals of the foundation are to preserve and research the collection’s works, to exhibit and present them to a public audience and to expand the collection’s holdings through bequests and donations.
Since 2006, the museum gugging has been presenting the oeuvres of the Gugging artists. Considered among the most important representatives of Art Brut since the 1970s, their works form the foundation of the museum and document key positions within the art created at Gugging. The museum also presents international Art Brut as well as works from other art movements from renowned private and public collections.
We are looking forward to the re-opening of our museum on 1st of July 2020.
