geb. 1947 in Wiener Neustadt. Mit 19 Jahren
kam er erstmals in psychiatrische Behandlung, und seit 1981 lebt er im
Haus der Künstler. Er verwendet hauptsächlich Feder und Tusche
auf Papier und hat als Künstler bereits international Anerkennung
gefunden. Seine Zeichnungen stellen meist ein Hauptthema dar, welches bis
ins kleinste Detail ausgestaltet wird. Mit ornamentalen Figuren, Tierdarstellungen
und Symbolen füllt er die restliche Bildfläche. Garber stellt
aber auch sehr farbige, flächig gemalte Bilder von Gegenständen,
Figuren oder Tieren her. Auch Fundgegenstände wie Holzstücke,
Baumschwämme und ähnliches werden von ihm bunt bemalt, ebenso
wie der riesige Ofen im Haus der Künstler, der dadurch zu einem klassischen
Art Brut Objekt wurde.

Born in 1947 in Wiener Neustadt. He first
came into psychiatric treatment at the age of 19, and has lived in the
House of Artists since 1981. He works mostly in pen and ink on paper and
has already found international recognition as an artist. Most of his drawings
present a main theme which is decorated down to the finest detail. Using
ornamental figures, animal depictions and symbols he then fills the remaining
picture surface. Garber also produces very colorful, flatly painted pictures
of objects, figures or animals. Found objects such as pieces of wood, tree
fungi and the like have provided additional surfaces for Garber's colorful
painting. His brush has also transformed the huge furnace in the House
of Artists into a classic Art Brut object.
