Art / Brut Centre Training Project
[Qualified Personnel for the Cultural Field]

The Art / Brut Centre Project is an occupational project for people who are at least 50 percent handicapped. According to their individual capacities, they are trained as assistant personnel for the artistic- and museum locations.

In one year, the project participants are taught a broad basic knowledge about the institution and the cultural management. The aim is to increase their chances of employment in the artistic and museum industry of the labour market.
The training and working areas are located right there in the rooms of the Art / Brut Centre. Thus the participants have the opportunity to put their acquired skills into practice straight away.

The contents of the project consist of practical and related theoretical modules as well as social-pedagogic attention. Each individual has his or her personal training programme devised after a joint analysis of their abilities, inclinations and wishes.

The wide array of occupation includes tasks such as manning the cloakroom, looking after artworks, helping in the museum shop or the museum workshop, overlooking the museum, cleaning and maintaining the rooms and plants.
This practical part of the training is supplemented by a basic course on art history and museums in general. Numerous visits to museums are to offer the participants an insight into the diversity of different art industries. They are also meant to facilitate their contact with the various artistic fields. Practical work in other cultural institutions rounds off the training programme.

The project is financed by the national Social Welfare Department.
