The society friends of the gugging house of artists (Verein Freunde des Hauses der Künstler in Gugging) was founded in 1990. Its activities are not aimed towards profit. The most important goals of the Friends of the House of Artists are to support the endeavour of artists whose work is classified as → Art Brut. Furthermore, the Society aims to strengthen the position of Art Brut artists in the artistic world. Their achievements are to be universally acknowledged. Also, the general acceptance of Art Brut in today’s society is meant to considerably improve the Artists’ quality of life.

These goals are to be met through speeches, conventions, scientific reports, social gatherings, discussion forums, through issuing an information leaflet, founding a library, an Art-Brut-Archive and an Institute for Art Brut, running projects and organizing working parties.

Since the 1st of April 2000 the Society has also been the House of Artists’ responsible body. Since then the House, in its capacity as a social institution, is able to invite people from all over the EU.
