The “gugging classics” area hosts a standing collection of exceptional paintings, drawings, prints and objects by the Gugging Artists. This part of the Museum therefore offers a general overview of works from the past 40 years up to the present activity. The works, created by 30 Artists all together, are regularly exchanged so that even this section constantly offers new pieces to the viewer. They come from an own Private Foundation – Artists from Gugging or have been borrowed from other collections and museums.
The art by the Gugging Group is classified as → Art Brut. Due to the important historic and present role that Gugging has played in the development of Art Brut, the Museum focuses primarily on this field. Through the use of changing exhibitions the museum now offers space for developing deeper and more comprehensive concepts, i.e. discovering rare details in Gugging Art. Above all this includes a wider presentation of other Austrian and international Art Brut representatives.
Furthermore, the enormous stylistic variety within Art Brut goes to create numerous artistic points of intersection. The exhibition-organisers therefore have a lot of leeway to shift between different emphases, and the changing exhibitions may integrate other artistic tendencies, from any field or epoch.

Paintings of August Walla
The Museum Gugging was opened in 2006 after a period of many years that saw the reconstruction and adaptation of a former hospital. It boasts an exhibition area of 1555 sq.yd. Its responsible body is the Niederösterreichische Kulturwirtschaft
