The Studio was conceived as an offshoot of the longstanding work and experience within the House of Artists. However, the Open Studio does not lay claim to any qualitative or artistic values. In order to cater for the large variety of requirements, the potent terms of `Art´ or → `Art Brut´ are to play an inferior role in this environment.
Personal creative potentials are to be supported above all else – no matter how odd they may appear. Artistic help, on the other hand, is offered only carefully and to a limited extent, didactic means are mostly avoided.
The Open Studio is visited primarily by people from nearby, regularly or sporadically. Yet other artistically active people from all over Austria and Europe have made use of the open structure of this institution for temporary sojourns.
The Studio is one of many modules within the Art / Brut Centre. It functions purely as a workplace, and therefore does not offer any exhibition- or sales forum.
The Studio is managed through the association Freunde des Hauses der Künstler in Gugging (Friends of the Gugging Artists).
• The Studio Gugging is an open art studio for people with or without psychiatric experience or disability. As an open studio the space therefore caters for every woman and man.
• However, the Studio is not an ergo- or → art therapeutic institution.
• Here, the visitors may work independently and make free use of the Studio.
• No artistic experience or references are required as conditions for participation. Everybody can decide for himself or herself what they `like´ or don’t `like´.
• The Studio manager is always ready to answer questions, give support and feedback. However, we make a point of not giving instructions or offering classes.
• Various painting- and drawing utensils are offered for the use of our visitors. You may also bring along and use your own, more specific material.
• Space and material are free of charge.
